This song demands explanation in order for you to enjoy it. First off, if you have not seen the rock opera movie - Repo! - you need to! It's the only movie I have ever seen that is entirely song. It truly is an opera, however, it full of blood, violence, rock music and stunning visuals. I hate - HATE - musicals but this movie was freaking awesome. Even my teenage son liked it and he hates musicals far more than me. The family and I started up the DVD not knowing what to expect but thinking it would be a corny movie to make fun of. All of us became so engrossed the movie, from the music to the visuals, we didn't even talk to each other for two hours. That simply isn't like us! We even watched the movie the very next day.
Ok, to explain this song you have to understand the context that it appears in during the movie. The movie is about a future where you can get organ transplants, or organ upgrades and improvements, by purchasing said organs with a loan. If you default on your payments, they lender will send a repo man to take back the body part. The scene which has this song is about mid-way into the movie. The singer, Anthony Head, has dual identities. He's a loving single-father who lost his wife, Marni, and was left to raise his daughter Shiloh. He doesn't let Shiloh leave the house because he's terrified a repo man, or something else, will harm her. During the day he tries to find cures for diseases, but at night, he becomes a repo man himself, hired by the largest and richest genetic company to kill people and reclaim property. Knowing that, the song explains the rest.
